BASF awarded admixtures supply contract for Incheon International Airport Railroad in Korea
Seoul, KOREA, July 31, 2008 – BASF Construction Chemicals Korea has been awarded the contract for concrete admixtures supply to Korea's Incheon International Airport Railroad (A'REX). A'REX is the Republic of Korea's largest ever private investment, accounting for a total investment of 3,949 billion KRW (approximately EUR 2.43 billion).
"Being a supplier to A'REX represents another important contribution of BASF to Korea's infrastructure construction," said Calvin Koo, Head of BASF's Construction Chemicals business in Korea. "We are confident that our high-performance admixtures will enhance the efficiency and durability of the construction project."
A'REX will provide an express link from Incheon International Airport to downtown Seoul. The railroad will traverse 61 kilometers across ten stations when the project is completed by the end of 2011. The project incorporates world-class technology and quality control in design and construction. To meet these high demands, BASF has provided a customized mix design of products for tunnel lining and station infrastructure. The special product combination comprises:
- GLENIUM® C301 high-performance admixture, which allows for outstanding workability control between the batching plant and the placement site. In the construction of the A' REX project, it takes more than three hours to transport and place the concrete, which poses challenge of workability loss in concrete. Thanks to GLENIUM® C301, the customer can easily maintain the concrete flowability. GLENIUM® C301 can also help increase the life span of the construction by enabling a solid concrete structure.
- RHEOMAC® 358 viscosity-modifying admixture is specified as a key component of Self Compacting Concrete (SCC), a new technology noted for a variety of benefits, including no need for vibration. As a result, minimal construction noise and enhanced working safety are possible, which is extremely important for tunnelling construction. Additionally, SCC is easier to pump, faster to place, and gives a more homogeneous concrete structure. In total, SCC can significantly improve the construction safety, efficiency and durability.
"The innovative formulation of our product mix has also facilitated the first SCC application in Korea's railroad history. This achievement underlines our commitment to innovation and highlights how our cutting-edge admixture technology benefits the Korean construction industry," Koo added.
As a reliable supplier of construction chemicals in Korea, BASF has been serving the Korean market since 1985. Its production facility and technical service hub in Ansung are well equipped to provide stable supply and customized formulation to local customers.
